THE ROLE OF ARTS IN CHALLENGING MENSTRUAL TABOOS
When we have to gather to discuss the multifaceted role of arts in our society, it is crucial that we recognize the intersection of arts with various social issues regardless of one that has been often overlooked; menstrual justice. The outline of this panel discussion aims to highlight how art can be a powerful form of advocacy for menstrual issues, health care, hygiene and well-being for menstruators. Plus, this session mentions the ways that art can confront challenges when breaking stereotypes associated with menstruation such as shame or secrecy. During discussion time, we also offer a space to explore how arts can reflect cultural ideology, traditions and values to bridge cultural gaps. At the close of this session, the participants are committed to understanding the artistic works to comment on social issues and justice, sparking important conversations on menstrual justice and raising awareness.
